Stobi’s importance stems from the strategic position along an old Roman trading route — a road that led from the Danube River (Serbia) all the way down into the Aegean Sea (Greece). Since Stobi was situated along this road, it became an important trading hub. The existence of religious mosaics and basilicas demonstrate that the early city of Stobi was an early Christian town. There’s perhaps no more powerful proof of this than at the baptisterium. Other ruins include the Roman theatre and Roman forum.
The city of Stobi is open every day 10 am to 3 pm. Entry is 120 Macedonian Denar.
